Measuring cylinders are part of the equipment of many laboratories. A measuring cylinder is a flat-bottomed cylindrical vase with a spout at the top, with a scale on the side to show how much liquid is in the measuring cylinder. The reading is taken at the lowest point of the liquid surface, the so-called meniscus. The accuracy of the measured volume is determined by the width of the cylinder and the width of the measuring lines used.
